Project Results
The project finished March 14th 2011.
During the project period the project has achieved to:
- Design, develop and produce a glass bulb with an internal reflector.
- Design, develop and produce a new luminaire that is smaller, simpler and cheaper to produce and maintain than current solutions.
- Investigate different coating materials and conclude on the best coating alternative.
- Established a method for internal coating of the glass bulb.
When evaluating the increase in efficiency for the street light, we have chosen to look at pole distance as the key factor since that is the cost factor that is seen when street lights are being installed or retrofitted. The calculated results show an efficiency improvement ranging from 5% to 29.7% depending on which road class:
- Road width 10.5m, 3 lanes, pole height 12m (S9 road class)-> 5.15% improvement
- Road width 7m, 2 lanes, pole height 10m (S9,S8 and S7 road classes)-> 17.0%improvement
- Road width 6.5m, 2 lanes, pole height 10m (S6 road class)-> 17.0%improvement
- Road width 3.75m, 1 lane, pole height 10m (S5 road class) -> 6.5% improvement
- Road width 3.25m, 1 lane, pole height 10m (S1 road class)-> 29.7% improvement
It is decided not to publish any details regarding the street light concept at the moment as any publishing of results prior to patenting will make the concept non-patenable.
